Nancy worked in community developmen for 40 years, with the last 20 years, traveling and living in Africa and Asia. Inspired by the art of local untrained artists around the world, she returned to Moss Landing 3 years ago to focus full time on art. Her house and garden have become her canvas. Nancy believes in the power of whimsical, colorful and joyful art to build and heal communities and individuals inside and out.

SUSAN ORMAN

I began my love affair with Art when I was just a young girl. I loved the way I felt when I was with Art. As time went one, I began to explore all of the many aspects of Art. As always happens in life, I grew up and my eye wandered and I left Art for other pursuits. As I journeyed through life I never forgot about Art and I even fantasized that one day I would return to Art full time. I have been very fortunate and am pleased to say that my true love, Art and I are back together. I am currently exploring the brilliant facets of Glass Art.

The Moss Landing Movers and Makers were born In June, 2014 when five neighbors with a common interest came together to create a special art exhibition and sale to be held in early December. Together they formulated a plan to bring local artists together in a unique environment to show and sell their art to the community. The Movers and Makers are local artists Nancy Russell and Susan Orman, who all believe in the power of art to stimulate the senses, and to build a sense of community. Each Mover and Maker has special talents, a love of Moss Landing and appreciation for the special link between art, science and the environment . Nancy Russell offered the gardens and studio that adjoin her home as the venue for the December 6th exhibition and sale. The house and studio was once home to the printing presses for The Castroville Times news paper. The Castroville Times was printed and published by Nancy’s aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Bill Carnie from 1952 until 1973, which was the hub of the community and a welcome gathering place for all. The gate to her back yard, and the doors to her studio will be open once again to invite friends, neighbors and community members to engage with local artists and enjoy the spirit of Moss Landing.
